How can we help?

Therapy at NHS Manchester Talking Therapies involves talking to a trained professional about your thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Therapy can be provided one-to-one, in a group, over the phone, via video call or online. Depending on the type of therapy you access, we will see you for up to 6 sessions and each session runs for 30 or 60 minutes.

Who are we for?

NHS Manchester Talking Therapies is for anyone whose GP surgery is based in Manchester. Our team are based all over Manchester in various community venues. If needed, we can provide an interpreter and easy read information.

Therapies we offer

We offer a wide range of therapies recommended by the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE), which use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Online Therapy

Our online therapy platform, Silvercloud, provides access to a range of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy programmes that can help you work on anxiety, low mood and stress. These programmes can be accessed in your own time, anywhere, from a device connected to the internet. You will also have access to Silvercloud for one year after therapy.

You will be supported throughout the programme by one of our practitioners (with weekly or fortnightly support calls for 6 weeks) who will provide guidance and tailor the online therapy to meet your needs.

Online Taster Sessions

We offer online taster sessions to help improve your mental health and wellbeing. Current sessions available, include:

  • Managing Stress
  • Perinatal Mental Health and Wellbeing

These taster sessions are around 30-45 minutes in length and will introduce Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) skills and techniques that you can learn and continue to practice in your own time.

Workshops at NHS Manchester Talking Therapies can provide you with skills and techniques to manage how you are feeling in the ‘here and now’. Our workshops will help you learn how to manage emotions and negative thoughts, which will have a positive impact on your life.

Working with a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner

As part of your therapy, you might work with a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) who will provide talking therapy, based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), that can help with common mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression.

Working with a Counsellor

As part of your therapy, you might work with a Counsellor who can help you to identify any problems in your life, allowing you to reflect on what is happening and consider alternative ways of doing things.

Supported Online Therapy

With online therapy, you can gain instant access to a range of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy programmes that can help you work on anxiety, low mood and stress.

Workshops

Our workshops will help you develop the skills to manage how you are feeling in the ‘here and now’. There is a choice of workshop and times you can attend.

The workshops are on a rolling programme, so you’ll never have to wait more than a few weeks to join.

How do they work?

Our workshops will help you learn how to manage emotions and negative thoughts through various evidenced-based tools and techniques.

1 – Contact with our service: Once we have received your referral, a member of our team will contact you to provide you with further details, and book you on to your chosen workshop. If we think one of our other options may be more suitable we will discuss this with you.

2 – Attend, learn & practice: Our workshops cover a different tool each week. It is recommended that these are practiced each week in-between sessions to gain the most benefit.

3 – Workshops are facilitated by qualified practitioners.

4 – There is no need to share and talk about your problems if you do not wish to do so. You can participate as much or as little as Find out more about our workshops below:you like. Our workshops aim to be relaxed and informative, providing you with the skills to manage your symptoms. Our workshops are not group talking therapy.

Low Mood Workshop

A six-week workshop for people who are experiencing symptoms related to low mood and would like to create healthy coping strategies and promote ongoing wellbeing. You will be guided through various evidenced-based tools and techniques based on principles from Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT).

CBT focuses on the here and now, and continues outside of sessions. CBT aims to help you see the links between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Providing you with the skills to improve day-to-day management of the symptoms of low mood, such as increasing motivation and challenging negative thoughts.

Overcoming Worry Workshop 

A six-week workshop for people who are experiencing symptoms related to worrying and would like to create healthy coping strategies and promote ongoing wellbeing. You will be guided through various evidenced-based tools and techniques, based on principles from Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT).

CBT focuses on the here and now, and continues outside of sessions. CBT aims to help you see the links between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Providing you with the skills to improve day-to-day management of the symptoms of worrying, including: relaxation techniques, letting go, problem solving and challenging negative thoughts.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

An eight-week evidenced-based workshop that helps people disentangle from their stresses by strengthening their capacity to observe what is happening in the present moment, non-judgmentally. The workshop includes Mindfulness Meditations, Mindful Movement, Mindful Walking, Self-Compassion and numerous different theories and concepts to help people cultivate loving awareness of themselves in their lives, increasing wellbeing.
