Unity Community Primary receives praise in recent Ofsted report

Unity Community Primary School is celebrating a positive Ofsted report following an inspection on April 28th, their first under the newly introduced Ofsted framework. The final published report found Unity to have achieved ‘Expected Standard’ across all areas of the school, including in its curriculum and teaching, early years provision, inclusion, leadership and governance, attendance and behaviour and personal development and wellbeing.

In the report, inspectors stated that pupils at Unity “are proud to be part of this diverse and welcoming school community”. They observed that “pupils’ personal development is a high priority at the school”, with school leadership creating opportunities to ensure “pupils are well prepared for living in a modern and diverse Britain”.

The report also highlighted Unity’s diverse offer of educational trips, visitors and extra-curricular activities as a chance for pupils to “broaden their horizons”. Ofsted inspectors noted that: “They try new activities, such as playing steel pan drums, developing artistic skills or taking part in bushcraft or adventurous outdoor pursuits. Pupils embrace leadership roles, such as acting as a sports leader, ‘green hero’ or head boy or girl.”

Jude Lee, Headteacher at Unity Community Primary School, shared: “Everybody here at Unity is very relieved to have had our Ofsted inspection, after waiting in anticipation for a whole year, and we are so thrilled at the result!”

“To have been judged as expected standard in all areas across our school, with no areas ‘needing attention’, is a big achievement. This outcome is a real testament to all our staff, who know our children and families well and work hard to support them in overcoming many different barriers.

It feels fantastic to have all our hard work acknowledged. The inspectors could see just how unique and special Unity Community Primary School is!”

The school’s staff and leadership were also praised by Ofsted for their effort to “ensure that all pupils feel welcome and achieve well. Morale is high. Leaders forge positive relationships with parents, carers and the wider community. There is a strong sense of community at the school.”

This positive outcome reflects Unity’s continued commitment to providing a nurturing and inclusive school community, where pupils are supported to achieve the best outcomes in both education and in life.
