Course overview

Duration: Four sessions, each lasting 3.5 hours (9am – 12.30pm or 9.30am – 1pm)
Format: In-person at one of our Manchester venues

Peer support is when people with similar conditions or experiences come together to support each other, either on a one-to-one or group basis. It provides a space where people can find acceptance, understanding, encouragement and guidance.

There is increasing recognition of the value of lived experience in in health and social care, leading to a growth in paid as well as volunteer peer support positions.


What’s involved?

The aim of the course is to equip participants with the skills to use their lived experience in a dynamic, healthy and focussed way to empower others to grow, develop and flourish.

On the course, you’ll learn how to:

  • Use active listening skills to help others talk about their experiences, hopes and wishes
  • Use elements of your own life story to motivate and empower others
  • Set boundaries
  • Manage group interactions
  • Reflect on the language you use and how this can include or exclude, reinforce or challenge stereotypes and motivate or discourage those you’re working with.
