Joblot Homestart Packages

Our Joblot Homestart Packages are a low-cost way to get the furniture  you need to set up a home when you are on benefits or have been refused benefits.

Packages costs from £100 but it depends on the items you choose and includes free delivery.

Any professional who knows you can ask for a joblot homestart package for you. For example, we have had referrals from law centres, social services, DWP, CABs, housing associations, and groups like refugee projects,  family support groups and homeless charities that help people in need.

We depend on your donations of good quality, reusable furniture, kitchenware, white goods and electricals.

You can drop off donations or we can collect – just call us to arrange a time that suits you.

The donations we welcome

We accept donations of furniture, domestic appliances, household goods, bric-a-brac and clothing from individuals and companies.

We can only take items that are in a clean reusable/re-saleable condition, and, unfortunately, we cannot process gas appliances, computer equipment (see our links page), or older TVs (Cathode Ray Tube models).

All donations of soft furnishings must have a 1988 Fire Retardant Fabrics regulation tag.

On sofas and armchairs this can usually be found under the cushions or on the underside. We cannot take items without these tags as Trading Standards law prohibits the sale of non-fire retardant soft furnishings.

Picking up or dropping off donations

Arranging for us to pick-up your donation

We can pick up donations from all over Greater Manchester and North Cheshire during our office hours.

We’ll collect items from bedrooms as well as downstairs, but please ensure hallways, stairs and through-routes are clear of obstacles.

Just call us to arrange for a pick-up. Contact as far in advance as you can – our collection slots can get booked up for several days ahead.

For bulky items that we cannot take, then your local council can dispose of them for you. Some councils may charge for this service.

Dropping off donations at our store

You can also drop off donations to our shop during opening hours 9.30am-4pm, Monday to Friday. Please don’t leave things outside!

When furniture can't be picked up or dropped off

When we don’t have a pick-up slot to suit you and you can’t drop it off at our shop, non-electical household items can be donated to a reuse container at the Sinderland Road Household Waste Recycling Centre. Please ask site staff if you need assistance – they can help with any lifting and carrying.

Cash donations are welcome too!

Cash donations

To make a cash donation to help the charity with its work, you can either:

Cash from car donation

By donating your old car to Giveacar, you can donate money to Wesley Community Furniture and get rid of an old car properly, putting it to good use.

Depending on your car’s age and condition, Giveacar can either recycle it at a green facility, or send it to a salvage auction. Collection is free and Giveacar works on a not-for-profit basis to raise money for charities.

To donate your car to Wesley Community Furniture using Gaveacar, visit giveacar.co.uk or call 020 0011 1664, quoting Wesley Community Furniture as your preferred charity.

We rely on our wonderful volunteers! Come and join us to get work-ready or simply give something back to your community.
