Who are we for?

NHS Stockport Talking Therapies is for anyone who lives in Stockport, or whose GP surgery is based there. You’ll come to us if you’re experiencing common mental health problems, such as anxiety and depression. You do not have to be told by a doctor that you have a mental health problem to be offered or benefit from a talking therapy.

How can we help?

When you come to NHS Stockport Talking Therapies, you’ll be assessed by one of our trained team. They’ll talk to you about how you feel and what you need help with so we can set you up with access to the right therapy for you. We offer a range of therapies, including:

  • one-to-one support
  • groups and workshops
  • online therapy (eTherapy)

Throughout your therapy, you’ll have regular sessions – either online, face-to-face or over the phone. Your practitioner will help you manage and overcome your negative feelings; and keep you motivated along your journey.

Through coming to NHS Stockport Talking Therapies, you’ll feel motivated to focus on the “here and now” of your problems and willing to participate in work between sessions, which can help you to feel better and stay better.

What is Talking Therapy?

Talking Therapies can help you to deal with negative thoughts and feelings, and make positive changes to your life.

You might be feeling angry, struggling with your confidence or dealing with the loss of a loved one who has died. However you feel, our qualified team will work with you to help you change how you think and what you do, helping you to feel better about yourself.

You can access this support on a one-to-one basis or as part of a wider group or workshop.

What is eTherapy?

With eTherapy, you can work through a series of online exercises and learn techniques to help you feel better about yourself.

We offer a range of courses available to access in the community and from your own home which can help you manage and improve a variety of difficult emotions.
