Living Well is here to support you when living and feeling well feels too tough to tackle alone.

We’re for people living in Rochdale, Heywood, Middleton and the Pennines who want to improve their health and wellbeing by stopping smoking, losing weight, getting more active, dealing with long-term ill-health linked to everyday living and much more. We can even help if you just want to feel better about life but don’t know where to start.

Whatever lifestyle change you want to make, take the first step and get in touch with Living Well.

Living Well is part of the Big Life group and commissioned by Rochdale Borough Council who work together to help tackle the main causes of long-term ill-health in the borough linked to lifestyle choice.

Office hours: 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Some of our services are able to offer appointments outside these times.

Most services are free. But if there are any charges, we will explain these in advance.

Stopping smoking isn’t just about will-power!

A bit of support can make all the difference. That’s why our Stop Smoking support service offers one-to-one support in a way that suits you and the changes you want to make. That includes in the evening, over the phone and on video calls.

GPs, pharmacists and community organisations can put you in touch with us and we also work closely with a number of local pharmacists to improve access to stop smoking support.

Stop Smoking Support

Our Living Well coaches will help you understand what triggers you to smoke, how to cope with cravings and will offer practical support to cut back, stop and make it stick.

Practical support can include nicotine replacement options like patches and gum as well as vapes. For anyone getting free NHS prescriptions, these are free.

Working one-to-one they keep you motivated and on track as you move towards a happier, healthier life.

Oral Health Support

Around two in every three mouth cancers are linked to smoking. And four out of five people have no idea what the signs and symptoms are.

Our Oral Health Support Team work closely with local organisations and groups so they can help improve oral health and spot the signs of ill health that first show up in the mouth.

That’s why our Living Well coaches offer one-to-one support to make weight loss lifestyle changes that last. This can also include support with:

  • dealing with long term ill-health linked to everyday living
  • and much more

Working one-to-one they keep you motivated and on track as you move towards a happier, healthier life.

Walk And Talk Health Walks

When you’re trying to get more active to reach or stay a healthy weight you don’t have to go in somewhere, you can come out to play too!

Living Well’s Walk and Talk Health Walks are short, weekly walks that give you the chance to stretch your legs and have a chat as you enjoy the wonderful countryside your doorstep.

Led by trained volunteers, the health walks are free, friendly and fun. Fancy walking clothing is not required, just a flat pair of shoes with grips and a coat to protect you from bad weather.

Oral Health Support

Eating too many sugary things doesn’t just pile on the pounds, it also  increases the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, some cancers, and tooth decay. Yet there are many simple swops that can dramatically cut the amount of sugar we eat daily.

Our Oral Health Supprt Team work closely with local organisations and groups so they can help improve oral health and pass on ideas for cutting the sugar in our diets and preventing tooth decay.

We can help you make a wide range of lifestyle changes that can help you reduce the impact of or even prevent a long-term condition so you can make the most of life.

All the support we offer is geared to building on your strengths and feeling good about life.

So we can also help out in those times you’re feeling isolated or facing barriers that go beyond your health.

As you move towards a happier, healthier life, they keep you motivated and on track  pointing you to services in your community that will support you in the longer term.

Community Champions

Community Champions are volunteers offering one-to-one support to overcome barriers that get in the way of living a healthier life.

This could be things like finding work, getting the benefits you are entitled to, budgeting and making the most out of your money, improving skills in reading, writing and maths, computer skills, overcoming mental health issues, and much more. Some have skills they can offer because of their training or profession others are “expert by experience”. All are committed to helping you make your life better.

Volunteering and training

Want to give something back and create opportunities to change your own life?

We have a range of volunteering and other opportunities available including placements and training. Through our partnerships with other Rochdale organisations, we share opportunities to help to deliver services, create community projects and support people in our communities.

We work to the ‘Investors in Volunteers’ quality standards and value the huge contribution, expertise, commitment and kindness of people who want to volunteer to help others. We take our responsibilities for supporting volunteers seriously and offer a structured package of induction and supervision for our volunteers.

Oral Health Support

Brushing your teeth twice a day, using mouthwash and flossing you can reduce the likelihood of infections and oral cancer by up to 80% and early detection is key to surviving oral cancer.

Our Oral Health Support Team work closely with local organisations and groups so they can help improve oral health and spot the signs of ill health that first show up in the mouth.

Moving to a healthier lifestyle can be about more than you, we help you get your children and family involved too.

Our oral health support team work in partnership with local early years providers, schools and health professionals to improve you and your family’s oral health. This includes:

Tooth time

Our oral health support team and local nurseries and schools have joined forces to encourage children to look after their teeth and brush them regularly and effectively. Children’s early years settings receive dental packs to encourage good oral health at home.

Our oral health support team provide update training sessions in oral health for health professionals, care workers and staff in educational settings. Get in touch for more information.
