Longsight Community Primary School was delighted to welcome local MP Hannah Spencer for a special visit that brought together pupils, staff and parents for an engaging and community-focused afternoon.
The visit began with an interactive Q&A session, where children had the opportunity to ask Hannah Spencer about her role as an MP, how decisions are made, where her favourite green spaces were, what the government is doing to reduce air pollution and improve safe travel for children. The children impressed the MP with their thoughtful questions and enthusiasm, while staff and parents also took part in the discussion, creating a lively and inclusive conversation about her responsibility and leadership.
Following the Q&A, the school’s Eco-club and School Eco Warriors joined Hannah Spencer for a litter pick in the local area. Working together, children, staff, parents and the MP collected an impressive four bin bags of litter, demonstrating a shared commitment to looking after the environment and taking pride in the neighbourhood.
The experience not only highlighted the importance of caring for local green areas but also provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to take part in positive action and see how community effort can make a tangible difference.
“It was a wonderful experience for me to work alongside the children of Longsight Community Primary to help to keep our local community clean through these litter picking events. I am reassured that the next generation is focusing on the importance of environmental issues and I am keen to be part of that commitment.” – MP Hannah Spencer
On behalf of Longsight Community Primary School, we would like to thank Hannah Spencer for taking the time to visit and engage so warmly with the school community. The afternoon was a great success and left children feeling inspired and proud of the impact they can have both locally and beyond.
