Employability at Open Door
Employability is a project at run at Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole Hospitals. The project offers individuals who have been unable to find work through traditional routes, an opportunity to experience working life.
Open door has been in partnership with Employability and has successfully given valuable hands on experience to trainees who have been successful in gaining fulltime employment within the NHS.
Volunteering at Open Door
From before it officially opened , Open Door wanted to give services users a chance to get involved in opportunities they wouldn’t usually have the option to, this led us to engage several hard to reach clients to help paint and decorate the building for us.
After our opening we encouraged these volunteers to get involved in the day to day maintenance and odd jobs. This has given them an opportunity to be engaged with something constructive, a sense of achievement, learning new skills and feel the benefits of involvement.
From then on we started to get inundated with people wanting to come to volunteer at Open Door. This led us to set up a volunteer application process.
We have had great successes with this and have utilised the help of volunteers for open events, meetings and even to help other clients who are dealing with problems.

Employability is aimed at helping individuals who are having difficulties finding work or who really want a chance to re-train and learn some new skills with the hope of going into employment.
There are over 70 professions within the NHS that means there is something for everyone.
