Volunteering at Open Door
From before it officially opened , Open Door wanted to give services users a chance to get involved in opportunities they wouldn’t usually have the option to, this led us to engage several hard to reach clients to help paint and decorate the building for us.
After our opening we encouraged these volunteers to get involved in the day to day maintenance and odd jobs. This has given them an opportunity to be engaged with something constructive, a sense of achievement, learning new skills and feel the benefits of involvement.
From then on we started to get inundated with people wanting to come to volunteer at Open Door. This led us to set up a volunteer application process.
We have had great successes with this and have utilised the help of volunteers for open events, meetings and even to help other clients who are dealing with problems.
