Improving Lives

The Big Issue in the North Trust is a registered charity which supports vendors of The Big Issue in the North to get the services they need to improve their lives. The people The Trust works with often have a range of complex difficulties: some have had a relationship breakdown and have lost their home; some have problems with drugs and alcohol; some aren’t able to get a job or anywhere permanent to live; some are migrants or people who are new to the country. We help people who aren’t in touch with statutory services to get the services they need - whether that’s permanent accommodation, drug or alcohol treatment, GP’s, English Language courses or other training.

What the Trust does:

• Provides an initial assessment to identify a person’s needs
• Signposts people to services and agencies who can help them tackle their problems
• Delivers a range of services (depending on availability of funding) including a breakfast club where vendors can get hot food and drink, projects such as art, drama, music, gardening and poetry groups, and training such as IT and cookery

The Trust delivers these services through The Big Life Plan, which through an assessment process, helps vendors identify their own targets for improving their lives. We then help each individual achieve their targets by helping them access services and offering ongoing support.
