Skills 2 Build
Funded by Martin and Judith’s Charitable Trust, Skills 2 Build employs unemployed trainees on a 12 month scheme looking to develop their skills in grounds maintenance, cleaning and minor repiirs in conjunction with key contractors and then move on into future employment.

What difference do we make?
In the last 2 years, Skills2Build has recruited 25 trainees (all previously unemployed). 7 are currently trainees, of those who have finished 50% have got jobs. A third have gained qualifications in literacy and numeracy, CSCS cards which let people work in the construction industry, and driving tests.
Former trainee Dave is now employed by Skills2Build: "I‘ve lived in Partington for 20 years. I’d been in trouble with Police and I’ve been inside. I’d worked on and off but never found a long term job. I’ve got the skills but because I’ve got a conviction people put me to the bottom of the list.
I worked as a trainee then got a Skills2Build team leader job. Now I work with 4 lads, I love seeing them change, I think the lads open up to me because I know where they’re coming from. Some of the lads have got ASBOs. That can be difficult, but we work with PCSOs to agree if the lads need to be in any areas they are excluded from. People in Partington think it’s a good way to get into work– last time we advertised for a trainee 20 people applied."
